The Last Exorcism(2010).In Baton Rouge, Louisiana, the evangelical Reverend Cotton Marcus was raised by his father to be a preacher. He agrees that the filmmaker Iris Reisen and the cameraman Daniel Moskowitz make a documentary about his life. Cotton tells that when his wife Shanna Marcus had troubles in the delivery of their son Justin, he prioritized the doctor help to God and since then he questions his faith. Further, he tells that exorcisms are frauds but the results are good for the believers because they believe it is true. When Cotton is summoned by the farmer Louis Sweetzer to perform an exorcism in his daughter Nell, Cotton sees the chance to prove to the documentary crew what he has just told. They head to Ivanwood and they have a hostile reception from Louis's son Caleb. Cotton performs the exorcism in Nell, exposing his tricks to the camera, but sooner they learn that the dysfunctional Sweetzer family has serious problems. i will try to keep this short and sweet, since many other reviews have already covered what i am about to say.
I am a huge fan of exorcism films, they never fail to both entertain and terrify me; therefore I was naturally excited to see this next instalment of contorted, demon-tastic horror. How wrong I was.
What a shame that the movie started out with some real promise, a good storyline tailored with a Mocumentary effect made for a potentially fantastic film. However I quickly realised my expectations of the movie had been totally misled, it was about as scary as a lettuce sandwich and just about as tasteful as one. It wasn't exciting, it wasn't creepy, it was predictable, boring and drab.
Now I can handle boring movies, however the ending was so laughable and ridiculous it actually prompted someone in the cinema to shout "What the hell did we just watch?" I had to ask myself that too…what the hell did I sit through this movie for? The ending seemed to throw everything at you but the kitchen sink, so much so it really seemed like it was a joke. It totally ruined any believable qualities that the film had and confirmed to me that this movie was poorly produced, boring, predictable dross.
